5 Characteristics of a Prophetic Feeler

There are diverse gifts but the Holy Spirit is in charge of who He gives them to. In this post, we will be taking a look at what the characteristics of a prophetic feeler

A prophetic feeler is someone who operates in the gift of discerning of spirits and receives revelation by means of physical sensations and emotions. They are sensitive to the spiritual atmosphere around them and extremely empathetic to the emotions of others. They can discern human emotion, spirits, Holy Spirit, angels, and demonic spirits.

This gift can be overwhelming at times–especially before a person connects the dots on how the gift operates. It can feel like a curse (pun intended) before a person learns to identify and bring everything they are picking up to Jesus.

The Prophetic Feeler Can Discern Human Emotions

The various emotions you feel every day, that guide your decisions, aren’t always your emotions. You may feel the peace and joy of the Holy Spirit at church in the morning and dirty and defiled during lunch at the restaurant down the street. If that restaurant is also a bar, and you are eating there for lunch on Sunday–you could be discerning the drinking and partying going on the night before.

Through experience, someone with the gift of discerning of spirits learns to separate what they are feeling from themselves and, in relationship with the Holy Spirit, identify the source of what they are discerning. This oftentimes involves the emotions of others and what they are carrying in their spirit–whether it be the Holy Spirit in them or a demonic spirit.

The Prophetic Feeler Can Discern Angels

For a feeler, discerning angels can look different. I have certain spots on my body that I feel pressure on and a pleasant tingling sensation on when an angel is active in a room or meeting. The most accurate place for me, that I call my “angel button” is on my right arm–near my elbow. When I’m in the glory and angels are actively ministering to people I sometimes feel something like a rubber band snap in this spot on my arm. It doesn’t hurt at all–it feels pleasant.

I also feel a hot fire in and on my body when an angel is active. Sometimes I feel it in my chest, sometimes I feel in my abdomen, sometimes I feel it on my entire body. This is often a sign to me that angels, in partnership with the Holy Spirit, are ministering in a room.

I also can discern the Glory. I call it “the glory vibration.” It feels like vibration and like particles of light. Certain believers walk in the glory more than others and when I meet them I can feel it on them. They sometimes shimmer as the glory transfers onto me. It’s a wonderful experience to have friends that walk in the glory–especially when you are a prophetic feeler and flow in the gift of discerning of spirits.

The Prophetic Feeler Can Discern the Holy Spirit in Other Christians

Have you ever met someone and you just knew they were a Christian? Not by the way they talked or looked but by what you felt when you interacted with them? Maybe they were sharing something with you and you felt the Holy Spirit on the words they spoke. Have you ever had the opposite happen? Where you meet someone and they were in such darkness you could feel the oppression on them?

Christians have the presence of Jesus on the inside of them through the Holy Spirit. We have the light inside of us. Unbelievers don’t have light. This light can be seen, felt, and discerned. So can the lack of light. In a similar way, heart motives can oftentimes be understood. There is an overlap between empathy and the spiritual gift of discernment. They are very closely related but probably not exactly the same.

The Prophetic Feeler Can Discern Evil Spirits

We are influenced every day by the people around us projecting their inner state and the atmosphere around them–onto us. This includes other people’s spiritual warfare, sin, and personal bondage.

You wake up full of joy one morning. You make your coffee, go to the gym, and listen to some ‘feel-good’ music on the way to work. You get to work, say hi to your co-workers, and sit down at your desk to start your day. You start working and then suddenly you start feeling hopeless–like life just isn’t worth living.

You start to hear in your mind thoughts like what’s the point to another day. Why am I even alive. Life just isn’t worth living anymore. It’s so hard. The world would be better off if I was dead. You begin to feel sad and depressed. You slow down the pace of your work as thoughts of self-pity flood your mind and emotions. You begin to make decisions and plans based on these thoughts and feelings.

I’m a prayer missionary at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, MO & We raise our own support to be here.

Your gift would be very much appreciated.

Suddenly, the Holy Spirit reminds you that you read something on the internet about discerning of spirits and being a prophetic feeler. You remember how happy you were moments before work. Then you over-hear your co-worker in the cubicle next to you confiding to someone on the phone that he’s going through his second divorce and isn’t doing well.

This is just a fictional example of how a prophetic feeler can pick up on the emotions and spiritual condition of the people around them. In this example this co-worker was under some sort of spiritual attack–he had a spirit of suicide and hopelessness attacking him. Because, in this example, you worked so close in proximity to him, you were coming under the spirit he was under. With time you learn to identify situations like this immediately.

The Prophetic Feeler’s Discernment Gift Needs To Be Trained

It’s important for the prophetic feeler to have a growing relationship with the Holy Spirit and set aside daily time for prayer, scripture, and communion. Staying in the flow of the Spirit, pursuing purity, and obeying scripture is important in maturing in the gift. Whatever a prophetic feeler beholds he becomes. Your eye must be good so that it can be full of light.

The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Mathew 6:22 ESV

To operate effectively in this gift a person will have to have sufficient spiritual and emotional health. You have to be in right relationship with God and also doing well in your personal life, otherwise, it’s very hard to discern where stuff is coming from.

Many feelers take years to come into their gifting as training comes by using the gift. The gift of discernment needs to be developed and cultivated in a community of like-minded believers. It’s a gift that most people are not familiar with yet. If you have this gift and are seeking to grow in it then find a community of believers who can help you grow into it! Be a forerunner!

But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:14 ESV

  1. Thank you Andrew…..I googled this as I was thinking about how I so full of joy and peace this morning and now I’m sitting in my cubicle crying! Lol. I have always been a feeler and my most dominant redemptive gift is prophet. It can be so exhausting and in a time such as we are in right now, especially so. I have to admit I have not read much on this, do you recommend any good reading on this….how to “train” ourselves in this gift so it doesn’t overcome us in a negative way?
    Thanks so much, Blessings!!!!

    1. Hey Daphne. Thanks for your comment. It’s encouraging for me to read. Jennifer Eivaz talks about this gift a lot. I’ve watched some of her stuff on Youtube. She has a couple of books out that I haven’t read yet but have been wanting to. I’d check out her youtube and consider one of her books. 🙂

    2. Carol A Brown has two books (they were originally a single book, but the publisher said it was too long, so she split them into two) The Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity and Highly Sensitive.

I am reading The Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity right now, and it is eye opening! I highly recommend checking it out.

  2. Why is this a gift not talked about or emphasized. I feel I have this gift guess I just thought It was discernment .

  3. I’ve dealt with this for 20 yrs. Sadly my former pastor and church didn’t have a clue as to how to help me. I pick up everything. I’m constantly in warfare. I’ve asked God for understanding for so long. I wish I could discern, pray and then be free from other’s spirits. God is still training me. It’s been a long and tedious 20 yrs. 😇. I have to walk a straight path. Alot of things I can’t do. You’re article shed some light for me. God bless you and thank you.

    1. WOW!!! This is so me, and this year makes 20yrs. It is indeed timeous, I know and tell people often that I can’t do what others do. My God, help us today! Place us amongst those that have been well trained of the Holy Spirit so that our gift may be prefectures for your glory.

    2. Always pray. Pray with out ceasing. This has tremendously helped me to put it all in to proper perspective.

  4. Thank you for this article. How do I know if what I am feeling is for others or if it is really my own?

  5. I’m also a Prophetic Seer with the gift of decerning of Spirits, I recently learned what I have been experiencing all my life has a title and I’m not crazy. I have this burning sensation in my upper back on the left side and now it has traveled to my upper arm and elbow. It mostly happens when I’m praying, reading my bible or just watching t.v it actually hurts and I’m a little frightened by it. Can someone please give me insight?

  7. Hi, Andrew! Thank you so much for writing this article! I have been a feeler my entire life but never had a name for it. Nor did I know there are others out there like me! Quick question: Will God sometimes give certain spiritual gifts to child at birth? As I mentioned, I have been a feeler my ENTIRE life. I am a PK–preacher’s kid, and as an infant, I KNEW when Sat came around. I could feel the change in the “atmosphere,” even though my routine never changed. Not knowing how to process this, I did what any little one would do–I cried the entire night long (my poor mom!). I did this until I was 2.

I didn’t actually ask Christ into my heart until age 7, but I have loved Him all my life. While I do believe spiritual gifts are given at the time of salvation, as the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us at that time, I find myself wondering at my experience. And there are 2 Biblical precedence for this: Jeremiah & John the Bapt. And there’s Joel 2:28.

I would love to know your thoughts on this. Again, thank you so much for this article!

  8. It might be something you picked up from someone else. I had pain in my legs for months,. I found out it was a “bitterness” Spirit from my coworker. If diagnosed, it would be a sciatica nerve issue. Very painful. I couldn’t understand why I had it only when they came around. God revealed it to me. I had to rebuke it every time. I also repented just in case. Even though I knew it won’t me. The transfers from other’s has all but stop after God lead me to matt sorger on YouTube. He has this gift as well, we have to understand our authority . Easier said than done at times. 1 John 5:18 has been a game changer. Once I got the revelation, I don’t war as much. Let the Holy Spirit lead you. Hope I’m not out of order, God bless you.

  9. Thank you for this. I got here after watching videos about angelic ministration on YouTube. I tend to feel burning sensation at my back sometimes during prayer. I suspected it was an angel or the Holy Spirit. Now I’m certain.

  10. WOW!!! WOW!!! For the last two weeks I’ve been feeling so so much. Today I was fine driving home I saw a family walking and I just got so so sad to the point that I’m googling why and ran upon your article. I used to tell my mom I feel so much. Thank you so much. I’ve heard of Jennifer E. and I plan to check out her books. Also the book on Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity. Thanks

  11. Thank you for posting this article and creating a small community. Your article explains what I have been feeling since I’ve been a child.

    God bless you
